A SUSTAINABLE CHOICE

One problem we've experienced is the limited availability of Swedish dog food products. At Njord Pet, we want to contribute more Swedish options for dogs on store shelves. That's why we've chosen to exclusively use Swedish ingredients in our products.

We see three particularly compelling reasons to choose products with Swedish origin labeling:

Animal Welfare: Sweden's animal welfare legislation is among the strictest in the world. Not only does the legislation protect animal welfare, it also strengthens food safety and considers future generations through its long-term perspective.

Sustainability: By choosing products with Swedish origin labeling, we can also ensure shorter transport distances and thus lower carbon dioxide emissions. Sweden's statutory requirements for summer grazing for cattle also contribute to open pastures where biodiversity thrives, while preserving Sweden's iconic landscape, which would otherwise become overgrown with brush and forest.

Vibrant Rural Areas: Swedish dog food products also support Swedish farmers and strengthen Sweden's self-sufficiency. In the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, this has proven to be particularly important. Today, Sweden's self-sufficiency rate for food is approximately 50%, compared to Denmark's 130%. The self-sufficiency trend has been negative for Sweden for several years due to globalization, and while this has come with cost advantages for the end consumer, one might ask where we should draw the line for this development.
