THE BEGINNING OF NJORD PET

Finding dog food products that you feel safe with is not always the easiest task. Often, you need to do a lot of research on your own or get help from knowledgeable staff in specialist stores to find what you're really looking for among the enormous selection. Words like "super premium", "superior quality" and "natural" are common to see on packaging, but this doesn't always seem to be the truth, which makes it difficult to separate the wheat from the chaff.

Specifically for chew treats, we have tried to find answers to several questions: 

• Why are an overwhelming number of dog chew items sold in Sweden manufactured outside Europe?
• How is it that the country of manufacture seems to be withheld from the packaging information by being printed in miniature size and via country codes instead of the full country name?
• Why is only the country of manufacture stated and not where the main raw material comes from, for example, the cow whose hide is often the product's main raw material?
• What do the animal welfare laws look like in the country where the cow grew up and was slaughtered?
• Is the raw material a byproduct of the leather industry?
• How far has the raw material actually been transported to reach the store shelf?
• Why are there E-numbers and additives in a dried product?
• Why is the color unnatural?
• Does it have to be this way?

The answers we found to these questions were not positive from our perspective, which became the starting point for Njord Pet. The ambition with Njord Pet therefore became to create healthy and tasty dog chews with sustainable origin labeling and transparent ingredient lists. 

It has been a long journey until we could finally offer our first products in the range, namely beef and cheese chews. We are extremely proud that these products tick all the boxes on our checklist, including being 100% Swedish and completely free from chemicals and additives.
